ThefollowingprocedurewasreportedinOncologyReports,2009,22(5).1085-1091byKoreanscientistsYeon-HeeMoonetal. Livechlorella(Chlorellaellipsoidea)100g(driedweight)wassequentiallywashedwith500mlofwaterand300mlof50%ethanolinwatertoremovepolarmaterialsandtheresiduewasextractedtwicewith500mlof100%ethanoltoobtainchlorophyllarichfraction(extractionyield4.3%).Stirringthecombinedethanolsolutionofchlorophyllain1NHCl(pH2.5)for3hatroomtemperatureaffordedpheophytinintheformofprecipitates.Theprecipitatewasdissolvedindichloromethanewashedwithdistilledwater,driedwithanhydroussodiumsulfate,androtary-evaporatedtodryness.Theresiduewaspurifiedbyachromatographyusingneutralalumina(Aldrich,Brockmann,~150mesh)withagrADIentelutionfrom30%dichloromethaneinn-hexaneto100%dichloromethane.Themaingreenbandwascollectedandevaporatedtodryness.Thecrystallinepowderwasdissolvedinacetone,adjustedpH12.0with1NNaOH,andstirredfor12h.TheprecipitatedCe6wasfiltered,washedwithacetoneanddissolvedin100mlofwater,andfilteredtoremoveinsolubleimpurity.Afterlyophilizationofthefilteredwatersolution,afineblackpowderofCe6wasobtained.ThepurityofCe6is93-98%(yieldofCe6:1%fromdriedweightofchlorella).
